World-Renowned Master Hypnotist and Co-Creator of HYPROV
World-Renowned Hypnotist Asad Mecci's jaw dropping comedy hypnosis performances have captivated audiences worldwide. Over his 20+ year career on stage, he has performed in front of millions of people live and millions more through the media. His talents have been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, the Chicago Tribune and on Entertainment Tonight, MTV, HGTV, and BBC.
Born in Northern Ontario in 1975, Asad has always had a fascination with the power of the mind. He earned an Honours degree in Commerce from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, before starting his career as a hypnotist in 1998. Asad began performing his solo act, Hypnohype, at colleges and universities across North America, later expanding his reach to include cruise lines such as Carnival, Celebrity, and Disney. He is certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists and has studied under the critically acclaimed hypnotist Mike Mandel.
The Crazy, Hilarious Idea
While taking a course at The Second City Training Center in Toronto, Asad came up with the idea of combining hypnosis and improvisation, leading to the creation of the one-of-a-kind Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis.
He reached out to legendary comedian Colin Mochrie through his agent, Jeff Andrews, and the duo teamed up to try out the concept on the Second City stage in Toronto. The success of their collaboration led to the formal stage version of Hyprov, which premiered at the Just for Laughs Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016. After touring extensively, Hyprov went on to become a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show, with Asad as the lead producer and star. The duo is currently touring in North America.
Asad's expertise in hypnosis and mental coaching led him to partner with Olympic Champion and legendary skating coach Brian Orser in 2012, to create the Peak Performance Skating audio series. Through it, Asad teaches athletes to use visualization and mental imagery to achieve peak performance. Endorsed by Olympic Gold Medalists Yuzuru Hanyu, Javier Fernandez, and Nam Nguyen, the program has helped many figure skaters enhance their abilities both on and off the ice.
Beyond athletics, Asad has been hired by major corporations to serve as an expert consultant in the areas of motivation, advanced communication, and stress management. He helped Roberto Verri, the host of the chatroom, lose 40 pounds in two months. It was documented on Talk Television and aired live across Canada.
Asad's contributions to the world of entertainment have not gone unnoticed. In 2017, he received the Entertainer of the Year award from the Anokhi Awards, a prestigious recognition in the Canadian entertainment industry.
